Katie’s Story

Katie Brindle’s journey into Chinese medicine began with an unexpected turning point. She had always dreamed of becoming an opera singer, but in her early twenties a serious car accident changed everything. Damage to her vocal cords brought that dream to an abrupt end, followed by years of chronic pain and ongoing health struggles.

Five years later, she stepped into a small Chinese medicine clinic on a London high street. There, she experienced body gua sha for the first time and felt something she had not felt in years: genuine relief. It was a true eureka moment, one that would completely change the course of her life.

Katie knew she had found her true vocation. She immersed herself in training, determined to understand the body in a deeper way, and went on to open her own clinic, first specialising in tui na, reflexology and therapeutic massage, before expanding into acupressure, acupuncture and BaZi readings.

In 2016, she founded Hayo’u, a practical, tools-based approach rooted in Chinese medicine that has helped bring ancient wellness practices into modern life. In 2019, she published Yang Sheng: The Art of Chinese Self-Healing, an international bestseller that has sold more than 50,000 copies and been translated into seven languages.

When lockdown began in 2020, Katie took her work online, going live daily to share the Chinese wisdom through free lives, movement, meditation and masterclasses, creating a thriving global community in the process. Today, she continues that mission through her chart-topping podcast Own Your Health, helping thousands of people rethink what it means to truly be well.

Now based in London, Katie divides her time between her private clinic, podcast, and discovering the latest in self-care. Based on the time and date of your birth, BaZi, a form of Chinese astrology, is used to help explain why you are the way you are and why certain patterns repeat in your life. It can also offer insight into why particular symptoms or health issues may arise and how to bring yourself back into balance.
